Acknowledgment of country

Polyglot acknowledges that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live and create, and we pay our respects to Elders past and present. For more than 65,000 years, children and families have created and played here, and we are grateful to make our art on this country too.

Illuminating the connections between us

Spark your imaginations to light up and celebrate what brings us together!

Move, make and play with families and artists from Polyglot Theatre and Flow Festival Australia who invite us to ask, who are we? And how do we weave our stories?

Take part in shared drawing, experiment and play with simple and sensory materials to build new worlds and come together to explore through movement.

Catch the Light is a bi-lingual (Auslan and English) and bi-cultural look into how we see ourselves and how we relate to the world through community.

This workshop is bilingual and delivered in Auslan and spoken English. Auslan interpreters will be available to support communication needs of participants. Polyglot Theatre and Flow Festival Australia are working together to make a new arts experience for children and families who are Deaf/hard of hearing. These workshops are part of that creative process.

How to prepare:

  • When you come to a Polyglot workshop, we recommend you wear comfortable clothing that allows you to enjoy moving. Remember that you have come for an adventure and there are many ways to begin finding your play. You are curious and this space is yours. Just as you might at the beach, do you take your time and dip your toe in to warm up, or do you run and jump right in? The worlds we set up welcome you to take your time and find your own way to your imaginative play; and our performers are there to join you, or play alongside you, and look after these worlds and their inhabitants. See you soon!

Arriving at ArtPlay

  • The front doors will open at 10am. A staff member with a lanyard will be in the foyer to greet you and tick you off the door list, as well as show you where the bathrooms and baby change are. You will be able to take a seat, go to the bathroom or visit the exhibition space while other families arrive.
  • When most people have arrived, another ArtPlay staff member will gather everyone in the foyer to do a general welcome and explain some information specific to the event. They will then bring you into the event space to meet the artist/s.
  • Baby change facilities are available at ArtPlay. These are wheelchair accessible and accessible by parents of any gender.
  • Water, infants’ bottles and breastfeeding/chestfeeding are welcome, however we do ask that there is no eating (where possible) in the Catch the Light workshop space.
