Cat Crazy Girls pounce on Polyglot’s Cat City at Melbourne Zoo

I’ve enjoyed many Polyglot installations over the years but last month was especially rewarding for me. I took my 8-yr old daughter and her friend to Polyglot’s Cat City at Melbourne Zoo. They are both cat crazy, with cats at home, but they are also big fans of the Ipad and games such as Roblox and Minecraft. When I plonked them in the car and explained what we were about to do, they were quite perplexed. Reluctant, even. “What, no ipad?” And then we entered Cat City – a room of carboard boxes, tunnels, craft, children AND grown-ups crawling around masquerading as cats, with this awesome sound-track … what the….? They were initially puzzled. But within minutes they leapt into the room, to create a Vet’s surgery and a Pet Shop. They played for well over an hour, making up stories, crawling around, giggling and meeeeooooowing – it was SUCH FUN! For me, one of the best things was seeing how these 2 friends literally just needed a cardboard box (well, hundreds!) and a theme to spark their imaginations. They loved it so much and are still talking about it…. and are meeting during the school holidays to recreate their cardboard box Pet Shop .
