Acknowledgment of country

Polyglot acknowledges that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live and create, and we pay our respects to Elders past and present. For more than 65,000 years, children and families have created and played here, and we are grateful to make our art on this country too.

Pram People at March On 2025

A celebration of community, for every pram, big or small!

A Pram People photo. An adult in a green jumper and headphones pushes a small child in a pram decorated with green streamers. They are surrounded by colourful motion blurs. The adult looks out of frame, while the child looks at the camera. Photographer: Sarah Walker

Presented by Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay

Pram People rolls out the red carpet for all pram users to assemble en masse, following curious and wonderful prompts through headphones, secret messages and even other participants. Performers will delight and intrigue, adding to the fun as families weave amongst and around each other.

Pram People offers a playful and welcoming approach to community participation through joyful movement and connection, using the most universal of vehicles—the pram. Hilarious, serious and surprisingly moving, this immersive, colourful spectacle will transform the venue and celebrate the pram as a valuable part of public spaces and our communities.

Inclusive and safe for everyone, Pram People is designed to be enjoyed by all our little ones and their carers—welcoming prams, buggies, and wheelchairs of all types and sizes.

This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its principal arts investment and advisory body. Polyglot Theatre is also supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria.

Pram People

  • Strollers are an important part of Pram People. All sizes and types are welcome!
  • Adult participants (those pushing strollers) will be given headphones to wear during the experience. The performance contains stories and prompts in English.
  • Parents/carers who are wheelchair users are welcome to participate with their child on their lap. Families with children in wheelchairs are welcome to participate if they feel it is appropriate. The soundscape focuses on the experience of parents/carers with babies/toddlers and strollers specifically, so it may not appeal to families with children older than 4 years in wheelchairs.
  • Other family members and friends are welcome to attend as observers, and watch the colourful spectacle unfold.
  • Pram People will take place indoors in daylight. There will be no bright or flashing lights, although there will be amplified sound for observers.
  • Pram People celebrates the people who use prams. It is designed to be relaxed and stress-free. You can step out of the 60-minute experience at any time, and there will be a dedicated break-out space where you can take a break, feed your children or change a nappy.
  • Nursing Rooms are located on the Mezzanine Level, open 8am-9pm daily, and Level 4, outside PIP’s PLAYbox, open 8am-6pm daily.
  • A children’s toilet is located at Level 4, opposite the entrance to PIP’s PLAYbox, open 11am-6pm daily.
