Bees at Big Umbrella Day (USA)

Polyglot Theatre’s Bees will perform as part of the Lincoln Center’s Big Umbrella Day, happening on July 1 2023 from 11:00am-7:00pm.

• Children and families choose how they interact with the performers and the landscape. Some participants may prefer a gentle experience, others may be more energetic.
• Bees does not use bright or flashing lights.
• Bees contains amplified sound and music that is played through portable speakers.

How to prepare

• When you come to a Polyglot show we recommend you wear comfortable clothing that allows you to enjoy moving. Remember that you have come for an adventure and there are many ways to begin finding your play. You are curious and this space is yours. Just as you might at the beach, do you take your time and dip your toe in to warm up, or do you run and jump right in? The worlds we set up welcome you to take your time and find your own way to your imaginative play; and our performers are there to join you, or play alongside you, and look after these worlds and their inhabitants.

Lincoln Center’s campus is on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, between West 62nd and 65th Streets and Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues.

• Patrons are urged to make use of mass transit or taxi services to reach Lincoln Center. For those driving, the following address can be used for navigation: 1870 Columbus Avenue, New York, NY 10023

• 1 Train to 66th St-Lincoln Center
• A, B, C, or D Train to 59th St-Columbus Circle
• The M5, M7, M10, M66, and M104 bus lines all stop within one block of Lincoln Center

• Lincoln Center’s parking garage can be accessed from W. 62nd Street (139 W. 62nd Street, New York, NY 10023),
• Northbound on Amsterdam Avenue at W. 64th Street (107 Amsterdam Avenue, New York, NY 10023),
• Eastbound on W. 65th Street (140 W. 65th Street, New York, NY 10023)

Accessible Subway Routes

• The nearest accessible subway stations are the West 66th Street station (1 train) and the 59th Street-Columbus Circle station (A, B, C, D, or 1 trains).

Accessible Bus Routes

• The M5, M7, M10, M11, and M104 bus lines all stop within one block of Lincoln Center campus and Jazz at Lincoln Center. All MTA New York City buses are equipped with ramps.

Accessible Pick-Up and Drop-Off

• Guests can be picked-up/dropped-off on public streets according to traffic signage. However, there are also several designated areas for your convenience.
• The Jaffe Drive pick-up and drop-off area is located on Columbus Avenue at West 65th Street. Enter from Broadway (southbound traffic). The clearance for vehicle drop off is nine feet. Access from concourse level for the Metropolitan Opera House, Lincoln Center Theater, and the parking garage. Take elevators up to plaza level for Josie Robertson Plaza (Revson Fountain), David H. Koch Theater, David Geffen Hall, The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts and Claire Tow Theater.

Accessible Parking

• Lincoln Center’s Main Campus Parking is open 24/7 and can be accessed from 62nd Street between Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues, at the corner of 63rd Street and Amsterdam Avenue, or on 65th Street between Amsterdam Avenue and Broadway (this entrance is open everyday 7:00 AM – Midnight).

This summer, the popular Big Umbrella Festival takes bloom as a free 1-day campus takeover full of relaxed spaces with multi-sensory experiences, performances, installations, and workshops specifically welcoming neurodivergent audiences and their families. Be awed by the high-flying aerial stunts of SWAY’s Bloom!, tap into your imagination by transforming into a buzzing bee moving through the space in Polyglot Theatre’s BEES, take part in a musical jam session in the new David Geffen Hall, dance with professional American Ballet Theatre dancers, catch a live performance by the celebrated FREE Players Drum & Bugle Corps, and end the night dancing under the stars at an accessible Silent Disco for teens and young adults! By registering for the day, you and your family will have access to the full roster of programming with the ability to drop-in throughout the day, experiencing as much or as little as you’d like.
